Reimagine: Genesis Equilibrium Disc with SRAM groupset
The Genesis Equilibrium Disc (52cm) was one of the first road race bikes to have disc brakes before UCI allowed them to be raced. Released in 2013 from Genesis, this was built using Reynolds 631 air hardened steel, sprayed in gloss black with grey decals for the brand and model name, the head badge is stuck on Genesis "G" badge. Originally this frame would have been built up with Shimano groupset running Hayes disc brakes. It is a light steel road bike that will give some flex for road rides. Not as stiff as a carbon bike, but is a fast road bike.
I built this to try out how a Reynold 631 steel race bike would feel like, I wasn't disappointed. This Equilibrium Disc from Genesis is fast and comfortable, can really ride all day in this. Climbing is easy and like most race bikes, it is quite aggressive on the drops.
This Genesis Equilibrium Disc is a 'one-of' reimagine bike build, which makes it a bit unique and an alternative to the stock bike by Genesis.

When I was building it up I wanted to use SRAM groupset, as the double tap system is an interesting one whilst riding, shifting is precise and quick. If I raced then it would make more sense as rivals would find it hard to tell if I was shifting up or down, this can make a difference to racers out there. But generally it suited me too, as it made shifting the cassette or crank was easy. So now the groupset is SRAM Rival with an upgrade on the crankset to SRAM Force (carbon Fibre). The disc brakes are Avid BB7 cable actuated calipers to keep the SRAM theme. The BB7 are very easy to adjust and maintain. I always liked Cinelli and was keen to provide a Cinelli top to the bike, so I put on the Cinelli Vai seatpost and stem with a 3T handlebar, wrapped with Cinelli black cork tape. The cables were done so the bike has a red front but black rear, so this is a black Genesis Equilibrium with red whiskers. 3M helicopter tape has been used on strategic areas to prevent frame from scratching such as chain stay and steerer tube area. The steerer has been cut a little longer with 16mm of extra height to adjust ride height up front.
The frame is new, ridden less than 100miles, but the SRAM groupset and handlebar is used and has done around 1000 miles. Cable inners and outers are all new, as are the seatpost, saddle, stem, bar tape. I recently decided to rewrap the handlebars with the Cinelli velvet bartape designed by Mike Giant, to add an urban feel to a retro race bike. The wheels have been used previously on a Genesis Croix De Fer for around 500 miles.
